Chimgan Mountains
Alpine air and ridgelines a short drive from Tashkent.
Open in Maps
The Chimgan range in the western Tian Shan is Tashkent’s mountain escape: green meadows and wildflowers in summer, ski slopes in winter, and crisp air year-round. A cable car and chairlifts lift you toward the ridges, with the turquoise Charvak Reservoir glittering below.
Don't miss
- Riding the chairlift up Greater Chimgan for sweeping valley views
- Swimming or kayaking on the Charvak Reservoir in summer
- Hiking and paragliding from the upper meadows

Getting there
About 1.5–2 hours from Tashkent by car or hired taxi; easiest as a day trip or weekend.
Best time
Late spring through autumn for hiking; December–March for skiing at Amirsoy.
Local tip
Combine the mountains with a lunch stop by Charvak for the classic Tashkent weekend.
The City’s Backyard
For generations of Tashkenters, "going to Chimgan" has meant fresh air, shashlik over open coals, and a break from the summer heat of the plains. The modern Amirsoy resort has brought lifts and groomed runs, but the appeal is unchanged: an hour or two from the capital and you’re among peaks.
